I cannot thank you enough for the effort you've put in to the simulation, and releasing it for us all to use is even more amazing - its been so, so helpful to us to get to where we are with our code, without it I don't know where we'd be! Looking forward to the update to test the overtake (and flip??) strategies.

I saw this as a great opportunity to code something fun for a change (not that enterprise systems aren't fun, they're just dry sometimes). I'm glad that everyone has been taking advantage of it for the more interesting code. As soon as my code is running correctly on race day, it should be awesome, but I wouldn't have been able to diverge so far without making a good set of tools, and it was worth it for me.

I'm really glad you've been taking advantage of the tool too, I'm glad to provide something of use to everyone, and hope it helps the sport grow and be more accessible.

Case and point as it was highlighted last race, a team of boyscouts racing against formula 1 engineers, it's truely amazing that such extremes can compete.

AI Updates!

Hello Everyone!

I've prepared the next release, we're already done one round of testing, baring any major issues found in final testing, It should be headed out soon!

There is a jump in version number, 1.1.0, yes that's right! There's enough functionality added that it gets the minor revision! The new options and function, ordered by the settings on the right:

  • Flip Bot : Now you can test with upside-down video!
  • PNG | JPG : The PNG is high quality, and JPG is low quality streams. Switching to jpg can help for times when the camera isn't as clear, and may help on those fringe cases
  • AI Control : This is the much anticipated AI feature control! Auto mode follows the light sequence, while the start and stop buttons let you run the AI bots at will.

Some other changes were made too, most notable:

  • 3D models! : This is part of the AI, the yetiborgs are now drawn in full 3d.
  • Improved image serving : The sim's serving code has been restructured to reduce lag and serving time of the image.
  • FOV Changes : Camera field of vision was changed to match the actual pi camera more closely
